Nigel is trained in Person-Centred Counselling, meaning he is keen to know you and work with whatever issues you bring to each session.  His aim is to provide a warm and supportive environment in which positive personal growth is facilitated.

Nigel is really keen to see people succeed in life, after coming to terms with and managing their neurodiversity and personal issues.  He believes every person is more than their diagnosis and prides himself on having an open door policy, welcoming clients from all walks of life.

His experience encompasses bereavement, abuse, depression, anxiety, neurodivergence, cultural issues and workplace issues.  Nigel has a genuine understanding of intersectionality and the impact and role these intersections play in people’s lives.

He volunteered as a counsellor with The Stroke Association, helping survivors to rebuild their lives post-stroke. In practice, Nigel noticed that a lot of clients opened up about suspected ADHD after bringing other subjects to their sessions.

He has also designed and facilitated workshops on productivity and wellbeing to groups of 50 people.

Nigel’s journey with counselling started during university, when he went through personal counselling for the first time and found it to be life changing.  His own training began in 2011 when he took a 6-week course, which he absolutely loved.  Nigel resumed training a few years later, doing brilliantly in his Level 3 at night-school, and solidifying his belief that he should pursue counselling as a career in order to help others. He went on to achieve unconditional offers from the two universities he applied to.

It was Nigel’s training in counselling that led him to question whether he was neurodiverse himself, as his supervisor would pick up on neurodiverse traits that he didn’t.  More questions came up for Nigel when he met his partner, who is also ADHD, and asked why he didn’t pick up on her ADHD traits!

Speaking to his mother, he was told that as a child he was incredibly chatty, and used to stop police officers in the street to ask questions and argue with them!

Nigel loves winning at things, though recognises he must have an interest in order to engage and be successful.  He is fascinated by specific ‘things’ including cars and technology.  After learning chess from a friend when he was 8, he became so obsessively good at it that he went on to play for Liverpool in primary school.

He sees neurodiversity as a super-power, and compares us to the X-Men.  He is now patiently (not) awaiting diagnosis.

In his spare time, Nigel enjoys travel, spending time with his partner and friends, and reading.  He understands the importance of maintaining a healthy body and exercises regularly.

Nigel holds a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Liverpool and is presently writing his masters dissertation on artificial intelligence for mental health at the University of Salford.

He understands how tough it can be to be a student with ADHD, to stay organised in workplaces, and to try and find your place in a neurotypical world.

Nigel is devoted to providing therapy free from judgment, to help people make sense of their world, and to help find the right path for them.
