Louise is a BANT registered nutritional therapist, specialising in child nutrition and nourishing the neurodiverse mind. She is passionate about providing nutritional support to parents and carers of neurodiverse children and teenagers, having worked for over 20 years in the food industry supplying nutritionally balanced meals for major supermarkets.

Louise has personal experience of neurodiversity and the importance of eating the right food. Throughout Louise’s own education, she always felt something wasn’t right, she struggled with reading, spelling, retaining and processing information. She had a family history of dyslexia but was never assessed or diagnosed, so was offered very little extra support, having to work so much harder than classmates, and taking longer to complete assignments.

Her children have dyslexia and other neurodiverse conditions. She has had first-hand experience seeking support for her daughter’s dyslexia when her neurodiverse symptoms intensified during hormonal changes, affecting her focus at school and causing extreme fatigue. After introducing a nutrition program for her daughter, Louise saw improvement in her focus and energy.

It was the combination of her own neurodiverse symptoms intensifying with her own hormone changes and her children’s neurodiversity and problematic eating that propelled her to study for her Nutritional Therapy Diploma.

Louise was inspired to nutritionally support the neurodiverse mind and provide strategies to parents struggling with extreme fussy eating after her own battles with her son who has sensory hypersensitivity, only eating beige processed foods. After following a nutritional program that suited him he turned a corner and became a different child with much improved behaviour and mood.

Louise then completed further training in nutritionally supporting children diagnosed with Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), extreme fussy eating and sensory hypersensitivity.

From first hand experience, recommending nutritional changes to a child’s diet can have an enormous impact on a child with ADHD, ASD, Dyslexia and Autism.

She is not a fan of removing or banning foods however for some children, certain foods can have a negative side effect and exacerbate ADHD and other neurodiverse symptoms.

Louise is able to help identify any possible food allergies and sensitivities and highlight the symptoms which can often include attention issues, irritabilities, tantrums and other neurodiverse symptoms.

Avoiding these foods for a short period in order to improve a child’s mood and behaviour comes with lots of support and advice so there is minimal impact on the child or family.

Louise has come up with strategies to overcome her neurodiverse challenges of avoiding challenging tasks, regularly starting multiple jobs and often getting sidetracked. Making key changes to her diet has helped her to focus, reduce her brain fog and relieve some of her stress and anxieties.

Louise spends time with you to really understand your child’s health history, any symptoms they might currently suffer, foods they like and dislike, mealtime habits, and whether you as a parent enjoy or dislike cooking or might not have the time to cook!

Louise loves to help clients understand the connection between the brain and stomach, explaining how the health of one can affect the other.

When appropriate she may recommend tests that can be carried out to look at the environment of the gut to find out if it is influencing a child’s mood, stress, learning and memory. If any gut issues are identified then a program can be recommended to nutritionally repair the gut, improving the child’s mood, learning and memory.

Louise is passionate about sharing her knowledge with families and recommends a personalised program for building a healthy diet that works best for your child and your family’s lifestyle. Providing practical advice that can easily be included into busy lives.

She will share delicious, healthy recipes, and recommend meal plans, together building a diet that doesn’t just manage a child’s neurodiverse symptoms but improves their brain function and mental wellness.

Always taking into consideration if your child is extremely picky or has an ARFID diagnosis, providing strategies to maximise nutrient intake to nourish the neurodiverse mind.
