DIAGNOSED ADULT ADHD / DYSLEXIA
LOCATION – LN11

Lisa is passionate about helping neurodiverse clients and has specialised in working with children and adults with neurodiverse conditions for the past 25 years.  She is a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor, specialist Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and Coach.

Lisa was diagnosed with ADHD Hyperactive/Impulsive in childhood and later re-diagnosed as having Adult ADHD and Dyslexia at the age of 29. She also has both grown up and younger children who live with a variety of neurodiverse conditions so has a wealth of personal and professional experience caring for and working to support individuals in particular with Autism and ADHD.

Lisa is vastly experienced at providing Sensory Profile assessments and pre-assessments for both ADHD and ASD. Therapeutically Lisa has many years experience assessing each client’s needs individually – she understands the neurodiverse conditions, where they meet and crossover and how they affect and impact clients so differently.

Lisa made the decision to train and specialise in these areas due to her own experience of parenting a neurodiverse child – trying to navigate the system for diagnosis and their education.  She knows exactly how difficult it can be for parents and is determined to help them and make their journey easier than her own was.

Lisa’s experiences left her feeling hugely let let down and her child not appropriately diagnosed or supported. This caused her child self esteem problems, self-confidence and self- identity issues resulting in co-morbid conditions such as anxiety and low mood which went untreated.

Lisa is still frustrated at the lack of understanding of the conditions and how they effect each individual. She know too many children, adolescents and adults with these conditions are so often misunderstood, misdiagnosed or simply missed entirely. Leaving young people who then become adults with a multitude of emotional and behavioural needs that cause difficulties in every area of their lives.

Lisa is extremely passionate about helping not only children, adults and families to understand and find ways to manage their conditions, she is equally passionate about raising awareness.  She does this by providing training to other professionals and organisations on how they can identify ADHD and ASD to ensure they appropriately support individuals in their care. She believes this helps to reduce the stigma that is still very much associated with ADHD in particular.

Lisa has provided two NHS services for ADHD and Autism and provides consultancy for her local NHS Trust and three local counselling practices.

Lisa works with children and adolescents, adults and families. She regularly liaises with schools and workplaces on behalf of clients to ensure their needs are being met.
