Julie has a huge amount of experience working in and around the criminal justice system with 17 years spent working with offenders and vulnerable young people.

Her work has included interviewing young offenders, making assessments, managing complex caseloads and providing supportive interventions to promote positive change.

Julie has worked extensively with offenders both in the community and in custody settings. She is adept at implementing communication across a multi-agency landscape.

Julie’s background includes running impactful group work sessions, coaching life skills and coordinating community integration projects with Criminal Justice Agencies, Mental Health Services and Local Safeguarding teams.

Julie has a passion for guiding and inspiring young people and supporting their parents, carers and families. Prior to training to be a Probation Officer at the age of 38 she worked for The Princes Trust delivering training in Pupil Referral Units and secondary schools working with adolescents aged 14 to 16.

Julie continued as a volunteer Business Mentor working with young people under 25 years of age to assist and guide them in setting up their own business or self-employed enterprise.

Julie worked at the BBC for several years gravitating towards community programming rather than news, and contributed research and production skills to local radio, regional television, and national projects such as Children in Need and Music Live in 2000.

As a Youth Mentor she designed and led enrichment programmes using photography, sports other creative projects to build confidence and skills. She has also worked closely with local schools and housing authorities on initiatives to engage young people and curb antisocial behaviour. Julie is passionate about providing empathy, structure and most importantly hope to help individuals reach their full potential.

Julie’s experience bridges criminal justice, mental health and safeguarding and she  advocates for proper ADHD screening, diagnosis and treatment to reduce stigmatisation, and improve understanding of how ADHD seriously impacts individuals, their families and the community’s wellbeing in the long term.

See what Julie’s previous clients have said …

I just wanted to say thank you so much for your sessions with me and my 19 year old son. You have been so thorough, so understanding and helpful.

I came to you in a time of crisis, worry and a state of completely ‘not knowing where to turn or who to turn to’. Both me and my son needed some non judgmental guidance on the criminal justice system process, and just generally what might lie ahead.

You have been so great in helping us both understand and find a clearer path ahead, albeit we still have worries but the picture seems a lot clearer now on what might happen and how we can deal with this as a family.

Being a mum to a teen with autism and ADHD meant I was really looking for someone who could understand how to explain processes clearly to him, meeting the needs of my son – you did this brilliantly and left such a positive mark on my son who described you as “amazing” after both our sessions.

You have followed up with me, made me feel at ease and that I could ask anything. At a time when I thought people would look down their noses, you opened up a safe space for me to get everything off my chest and get professional advice and support. Thank you so much.

Mum, ADHD & ASD Son, Manchester

Julie has been so incredibly helpful. She was the first person I have opened up to and felt able to ask questions to about a worrying legal situation I currently find myself in.

Julie would always make sure I understood what she was saying and explain it in a different way if I couldn’t.

When speaking with Julie, I didn’t have to worry about anything. Especially being judged.

I can’t thank her enough for the advice and support she has given me.
