DIAGNOSED COMBINED ADHD

LOCATION ~ HP15

Undiagnosed until she was 41, Adele thought she just experienced high levels of stress and unconsciously developed strategies through her lifestyle to help manage. However, despite doing everything she thought she ‘should’ be doing, she still felt unwell – despite numerous blood tests telling her she was ‘normal’.

Reaching perimenopause, Adele noticed an increase in traits that she had only previously experienced when she was premenstrual.

Having avoided an ADHD diagnosis for 13 years she finally took the plunge, had the assessment and has not looked back since. The self-compassion and kindness she is now able to offer herself, by understanding how her brain works, influencing both how she feels mentally and physically, has been a game changer to her quality of life.

Eventually her periods completely vanished due to the hormone imbalance and this was the BIG red flag to start to understand what was going on.

Realising she was not going to get the support she needed through traditional medicine, she embarked on a journey to balance her hormones naturally.

Adele realised that the majority of evidence on ‘what works’ in relation to health and wellbeing is based on research on men. This seemed absurd given women have an entirely different hormone system to men!

Sparking her sense of injustice and feminist values, Adele embarked on a journey of research of what actually works for women’s bodies and consequently created a unique approach to empowering women to manage their health and wellbeing.

Following her own diagnosis it occurred to Adele that her ADHD traits fluctuated with her hormones, so again she began a deeper dive into this topic, to explore how she could best manage her own and subsequently other ADHD womens’ symptoms.

Adele found there appeared to be a direct correlation between hormone imbalances and the experiencing of ADHD traits, although research is still lacking in this area.

Having the understanding of the impact hormones have on practically every system in the body, has a significant impact on how ADHD women can best meet their individual needs.

The sooner girls and young women understand this relationship, the more positive their outcomes can be.

Adele is passionate about helping women understand the connection between their ADHD and hormones and co-authored the book ‘Essential Feminine Wisdom’. She is passionate about supporting women to harness the power of their cyclical nature and take an empowered, lifestyle approach to their hormone health.

Previously Adele spent 20 years working with young people with complex needs, specialising in female offending, for which she won an award for her academic research. Whilst she loved the challenges of this work and the client group, it often involved working in many ‘energetically heavy environments’ so she spent much of her free time learning the healing arts and investing in her interest in health.

Following the birth of her child she left this chapter of her life and set up her own holistic health business. Again she saw patterns she herself had with many of the women in her practice doing all the things they thought they ‘should’ be doing to feel great, but were not getting the results they wanted. Her robust understanding what works for women’s bodies became an absolute game changer in the outcomes her clients experienced.

Adele offers a truly unique approach to understanding the needs of a woman’s body, which empowers clients to make choices around their health to feel great.

Adele offers one to one support to balance hormones and support women to begin to take control of how they feel. She offers unique sessions to support women with ADHD to understand their cycle and use their hormonal fluctuations to their advantage.

She also runs workshops to Love Your Lady Bits, Parenting Puberty, Women’s Circles and other female focused events which she can run one to one for Headstuff clients.

Understanding the complex interplay of hormones and how this affects ADHD traits, particularly during our premenstrual and perimenopause, can be a game changer for women to manage these phases.

Adele. Thank you so so much for your time! It is so good to find people willing to actually listen, and who share their wisdom! Really really appreciate it!

I think I’m pretty keen to go down the diagnosis route and have a bit of a bee in my bonnet now and having been able to chat with you and understand more about what’s going on from a hormone side too – even more determined now to push on. So looking to making progress on that side of things and to get an appointment in the diary for once.

Honestly, having spent the last few weeks in a complete depressive spin, not knowing which way to turn, I feel a little more hope already just from having spoken with you – so thank you!
