Having spent a lifetime of feeling like she was on the ‘outside, looking in’, receiving a late diagnosis of ADHD, firstly validated how Meryl felt, but more importantly gave her a sense of direction and purpose. Not only for herself, but also now she could use her own lived experience as well as her professional experience to educate clients on ADHD, to deepen their understanding of ADHD and how it presents in life and the workplace.
Being diagnosed ADHD or even if you are questioning if you have ADHD can be a confusing, unsettling and upsetting time for some clients. It can be even worse once the diagnosis is confirmed as there is little support or guidance as to what this actually means for you.
Meryl is a lifelong learner and believes passionately that knowledge leads to understanding, self-awareness, acceptance, and growth. She can understand and support you as you begin to understand how having ADHD impacts your life and also introduce you to some useful tools which can be used to support you.
Being ADHD means that our Executive Functioning Skills are between 20 – 30% neurodevelopmentally delayed and this can show up in so many aspects of life. Working through the Executive Functioning Skills can be hugely enlightening and provides great insight into how an ADHD person thinks and behaves in a given environment.
Meryl’s signature character strengths are fairness, forgiveness, honesty, creativity and bravery and this has been her North Star throughout her life and career. She can bring these strengths to bear to support clients in the workplace. who might be being unfairly discriminated against – often times due to genuine ignorance on the part of the company around the subject of neurodiversity.
Whilst personal education and support is essential, it shouldn’t stop there. Workplace education and accommodation is not only vital, it is also a legal requirement for any company to ensure that they are not discriminating against anyone who has a disability due to their ADHD. It is often difficult for someone who has ADHD to approach their company and share their diagnosis as they are concerned at what the reaction might be. Meryl can work with you to build up your confidence and comfort in talking to your employer about reasonable adjustments that might need to be made to support you.
Her extensive HR background and training can also provide great support and advice to anyone who might be experiencing discrimination in the workplace due to their ADHD.
As the field of neurodiversity and ADHD in particular, is continuously evolving, it can be difficult for companies to keep up to date on what reasonable adjustments should be made or even what it means to be neurodivergent and be able to make the necessary adjustments in the workplace. Meryl can provide training and education to managers so that someone who has ADHD has a safe environment and a rewarding career.
She also has a strong and keen interest in supporting busy professionals and executives who might be extremely successful but internally in turmoil due to the constant need to mask their symptoms. Using the Executive Functioning framework can quieten the inner turmoil whilst also providing a sense of purpose and direction to daily work and personal lives.
So whatever your personal situation is, Meryl can provide coaching which will support and guide you through life so that you feel in a position of strength to meet any challenges you might face.
