DIAGNOSED ADHD & SENSORY PROCESSING DISORDER

LOCATION ~ BL5

Lauren always had a sense as a child that she was different to other children and felt she didn’t fit in anywhere, neither at home nor at school.  Although she excelled at English and creative subjects, she struggled with maths and just couldn’t focus or take information in.  She would daydream and stare out of the window … anything seemed far more interesting than maths!

Teacher reports all said  ‘Lauren talks too much, is easily distracted and could do better if she paid attention’.  This sense of ‘not fitting in’ or being good enough took its toll on her self-esteem and led to teenage anxiety, depression and binge eating disorder.

Lauren is still frustrated that had only someone seen earlier that she had ADHD and dyscalculia, support could have been put in place and her life would have been much easier and not so much of an uphill struggle.

Since being diagnosed and qualifying as a counsellor Lauren has been able to understand herself more and been able to put strategies in place that have helped her to live a much more fulfilled and happier life.  Now she is passionate about helping others to do the same!

Lauren works creatively with clients and is an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist.  She uses different techniques to work with each client individually.  She does not believe one size fits all. Lauren is empathic, understanding, warm and personable and very much wants the best outcome for each client she works with.

Lauren has worked with a wide range of clients including vulnerable women in a Women’s Centre.  She has worked with and specialises in anxiety, depression and low self-esteem in women.  Her aim is to allow them to understand, accept and eventually empower themselves.  She has witnessed the incredible effects that clients have experienced in therapy, finding the resources to make positive changes and enjoy life again.

Lauren has worked with clients of all ages from all backgrounds with a variety of issues including general anxiety disorder, chronic illness, domestic violence, self-harm, eating disorders, weight problems, acute anxiety and panic attacks, depression, insomnia, work related stress and grief.

Lauren understands the difficulties and challenges that can come with ADHD from her own experiences and knows how frustrating, overwhelming and upsetting the lack of understanding and support can be.  She is on a mission to do something about that and to help clients who feel the same.  She can work with self-regulation techniques, organisational strategies or just be a listening and understanding ear.

Lauren specialises in supporting women with ADHD and those with heightened sensitivity as she herself has dyscalculia and sensory processing disorder.
