DIAGNOSED ADHD

LOCATION ~ CT14

Kaye’s natural humour and positivity enabled her to navigate her depression, anxiety, burnout, addiction, self-harm, eating disorders, imposter syndrome, chronic pain and PTSD before her ADHD diagnosis made sense of all that at the age of 51!  All while having a successful career and raising two neurodivergent children as a single parent – with a combo of ASD, ADHD and Dyslexia.

Her passion now is helping others better manage the challenges their differently-wired brains causes as well as understanding how to maximise their strengths and increase their positive emotions. She supports people of all ages and backgrounds to increase their confidence, gain clarity, find their ‘why’ and increase the joy, meaning and balance in their lives.

Kaye brings a natural joy, creativity and humour to her coaching and helps people be happier in their own skin.

Kaye has a strengths-based and positive psychology approach, which helps people see the opportunities in their challenges. She offers holistic support to help people transform their beliefs, to reduce their shame and increase their self-compassion, to use practical work-arounds and hacks, recognise when they are ‘masking’ their traits and the cost of avoiding certain tasks or situations.

Kaye has a real passion for enabling people from all backgrounds to realise their potential and take the steps towards their dreams, fuelled by her own real-life experience. She supports people of all ages and backgrounds to increase their confidence, gain clarity, better manage challenging situations and increase the joy, meaning and balance in their lives.

Undiagnosed ADHD meant that despite being bright enough to be accepted at the University of Cambridge, Kaye spent 40 years struggling with the shame of unrealised potential and a history of self-medicating with harmful behaviours.

During lockdown, she was awarded a scholarship to study for a Masters’ in Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology, which is when she began to suspect she had ADHD, later confirmed in a diagnosis. This finally helped her make sense of her life-long struggles and recognise the various strategies she had developed to both mask and overcome her executive function and mental health challenges.

By the age of 14, Kaye had an eating disorder and was secretly drinking and self-harming. From the outside, she was a model and popular pupil, who was elected to be head-girl at school, consistently getting A’s (despite only doing her homework on the school bus) and with a long list of hobbies and social engagements including violin, saxophone, clarinet, Girl Guides, ballet, tap, jazz dance, crafting, as well as part-time jobs. Inside, however, she was a hotch-potch of anxieties, doubts, shame and suicidal thoughts. Things really unravelled when she went to university and she eventually ended up in psychiatric care.

Kaye’s passion, born from these experiences, is helping people understand themselves more easily  and earlier than she did, so they can develop their own strategies for their unique brains and ways of experiencing the world.

She combines psychoeducation, trauma awareness and practical and creative NLP techniques with the science of positive psychology. She wants to help people move beyond surviving to thriving, as she herself has. She helps people connect to their strengths, motivations, and values and make incremental changes in their daily lives, which can quickly build up to substantial transformation.

Kaye has also supported others to manage chronic health conditions after experiencing chronic pain over many years herself. She studied for a Diploma in Nutritional Therapy to better manage her own condition and is able to bring a holistic approach to her coaching, to include sleep, exercise, breathing, food and use of supplements.

As well as her qualifications and personal life experience, Kaye also brings over 15 years’ professional experience in universities, colleges and training organisations. This includes heading up an FE college’s SEN department, managing a team in a university careers department and managing a European-wide project for women returning to work after a career break.

She has worked with a wide range of people from Cabinet ministers to people with severe learning difficulties and with many incredibly vulnerable people over the years; such as young people who were homeless, in care or had recently left care with additional needs around mental health and learning support.
