DIAGNOSED COMBINED ADHD

LOCATION ~ BS1

Sarah-Emily’s desire to train as a counsellor came from her own previous experiences of anxiety, low self-esteem and depression.

She had been diagnosed with ADHD and Dyspraxia as a young child and ‘statemented’ as it was called then at the age of 5.

Sarah-Emily didn’t find school easy, often struggling to motivate herself and concentrate for long periods. Although she had friends, she always felt ‘different’ and hated that it sometimes took her longer to learn things than others.

This was in part why she still lacked confidence through much of her teens and twenties. However, Sarah-Emily managed to shake off these insecurities by going off backpacking around the world and forcing herself out of her comfort zone!

Sarah-Emily later discovered she is a Highly Sensitive Person, which has led her on a path to a greater understanding of herself and past experiences.

Her personal struggles are what makes her passionate about the removal of outdated attitudes towards neurodiversity, helping people remove blocks, find the ‘ability’ in disability and create harmony and balance.

Sarah-Emily is an integrative, trauma-informed counsellor and therapeutic coach. She believes in working holistically with every aspect of a person from their mind, body and soul with the conscious and unconscious waiting to be explored.

Sarah-Emily is passionate about helping people increase awareness, improve their self-esteem, create change and develop hope for the future.  She loves working with the body through meditation, movement and visualisations, having experienced the benefits of reducing stress and overwhelm this way, and knowing its ability for deep transformation.

Sarah-Emily has a deep understanding of the adversities neurodivergent people face and doesn’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. She now sees neurodiversity as a superpower both in herself and others.

Sarah-Emily has also encountered chronic pain on a personal and professional level.  This has given her increased empathy and understanding when working with clients  dealing with chronic pain and debilitating illnesses like Fibromyalgia.

Aside from working with neurodiverse clients Sarah-Emily has counselled at a charity in Bristol providing long-term addiction and trauma-informed therapy.  She has also worked at Durham University in providing short-term solution-focused counselling.  Sarah-Emily found this work dynamic and believes in helping people sooner so they can thrive for longer. She also worked at this time with gender dysphoria.

Sarah-Emily is also passionate about equality and helping those marginalised in society. She hugely believes in treating people with respect, regardless of their background, race, gender or culture.

Sarah-Emily is creative. She loves yoga and being in nature for its healing benefits. She’s an active member of the Green Party and has helped friends organise an arts festival in Bristol Harbourside. Before moving to Bristol, Sarah-Emily lived and worked in London for over 13 years.
