MICHELE
INTEGRATIVE COUNSELLOR
COUPLES COUNSELLOR
ADDICTION THERAPIST

 LOCATION ~ LU7

Michele had personal therapy many years ago and the experience of talking to someone outside her family was so life changing she decided there and then she wanted to be a counsellor. Many years later she made that dream come true and she completed her training in 2014.

She began private practice counselling in January 2015 which she finds incredibly rewarding. Through her own experience of therapy as a client, she is aware how important it is to provide a completely empathic, caring, supportive and non-judgmental environment.

Michele’s theoretical orientation was formed by her early life experiences as a child. It was not a memorable one but it helped Michele to know first hand that damaged children do have the chance to change, especially if they are able to take that first step and talk to a qualified counsellor.

Michele’s counselling placement training saw her working for an organisation who found housing for clients with complex needs. Many had alcohol and drug addictions. Some had criminal backgrounds and with her more recent understanding of ADHD, she now suspects a large proportion had undiagnosed ADHD too.

Michele firmly believes that your past does not need to predict your future. It can inform you and give you great learning but your past does not need to dictate your future. Those choices are yours.

Michele is also a Bereavement Counsellor with Cruse so specialises in loss and bereavement counselling. She has also worked as a Home Carer for over ten years and is experienced in elderly and palliative care. Experience has been gained by working at a local hospice providing end-of-life care for patients primarily with cancer. During this time Michele has supported both the patients and their families who were about to lose their loved ones. This wealth of knowledge gained has been used to good effect when counselling clients who are struggling to come to terms with either their own health or that of their loved ones.

Michele now works with a very wide range of mental health issues from anxiety and depression through to other clinical psychiatric diagnosis. She also works with vulnerable adults with various complex individual and family issues, behaviours and difficulties.

Michele has had training in Suicide Prevention, learning step by step approaches to recognising and helping someone who is thinking of taking their life – allowing them to consider their options and hopefully make different choices. The training looked at what prevents people seeking help, signs of suicide, suicide safety guide, partnerships and resources. Six weeks later she was able to put her training into practice when a young person was sitting on a bridge waiting for a train. She was so grateful for the training when that one life alone was saved.

Michele is passionate about continuing her learning and has since qualified as a Couples Counsellor and more recently as a Clinical Supervisor, supporting both trainee supervises as well as qualified counsellors.

Michele is very experienced at helping our clients apply for Access to Work. She is also happy to support clients during the award process and has much experience of preparing the Business Plans, Financial Forecasts and Support Worker Record of Tasks forms required. Michele can also help you source the necessary quotes.
