MICHAEL
ADHD & EXECUTIVE FUNCTION COACH
TROUBLED TEENS COACH
DIAGNOSED ADHD
LOCATION ~ CH65
After many years of finding himself in difficult situations, being excluded from mainstream education, and having dealings with the Criminal Justice system, Michael was finally diagnosed with ADHD which explained so much of his past.
From an early age, Michael began having challenges in school being labelled as disruptive and aggressive. This led to exclusion from mainstream education in year 8. Coupled with a turbulent time at home, he fell into a lifestyle that led him into involvement with the criminal justice system.
At the age of 23, after his final experience with the justice system, he made a conscious decision to make the changes and geographical moves necessary to start his life again. He completed an access to HE qualification, which enabled him to attend Chester University, achieving a 2:1 BSc in Criminology.
However, Michael still wasn’t able to have the ‘normal’ life that others around him seemed to enjoy. A perpetual chaos of relationships, employment and personal crises still seemed to follow Michael wherever he went. Alongside this, his internal narrative was becoming so loud and critical that Michael firmly believed he was one crisis away from a mental health breakdown. In short, he thought he was crazy as he did not understand himself and the unidentified condition he had.
Michael attempted to get an NHS diagnosis, but as many of us are aware, the waiting times he faced left him at risk of once again of going down the wrong path, losing valuable relationships and being unable to maintain employment for long periods of time.
The suffering and confusion that individuals are left in, with no support or diagnoses, is harmful but much of this can be alleviated by education and support. It is this risk and harm that undiagnosed ADHD causes that led Michael to start his studies in Psychology and Coaching. He was determined to help people.
Now as a qualified ADHD and Executive Coach, he is passionate about providing education and support for ADHD clients. As a result of his own experiences, he is keen to help others understand their behaviours and thereby prevent them from falling into a chaotic lifestyle, with all the problems that can bring with it.
Michael’s post-university career was based in the Hostels and Residential Children‘s Care Sector, where he used his skills to support the young children in his care. However, despite disclosing his own diagnosis with his employers, it soon became clear that the support for those in the workplace and general understanding about how these conditions also affect staff and colleagues was non-existent. It was this realisation that led Michael to want to try and improve some of the issues he had identified and experienced.
Michael’s technique is to use real world practical solutions, maintaining personal and business objectives for clients whilst ensuring that they, their employees, or their loved ones are able to navigate life and avoid the pitfalls that so many with ADHD (diagnosed and undiagnosed) face.
Michael firmly believes ADHD is an impactful condition with many potentially harmful outcomes if not properly understood and managed. But it is also a set of traits that, when harnessed properly, can turn those with it into some of the most productive and innovative individuals in our society.
Using an Executive Function framework, Michael uses a productivity-focused approach to support not only the individuals, but also those around them by enhancing the strengths and mitigating the challenges that many of us experience on a daily basis.
Michael has a good record of supporting men in accepting diagnoses in a way that respects their existing persona and values. He supports men and helps them support themselves whilst still keeping their pride and identity intact.
Michael has personal experience of criminalisation and the increased risks that ADHD presents in relation to exploitation and peer pressure. He sold drugs and took drugs from a very young age, and experienced very hostile and violent environments as a result. Michael is passionate about supporting young men and boys in realising the reality of criminal life and the lesser-known but very real downsides.
Michael also has experience in working in corporate environments leading and supporting individuals in executive positions. His clients and experience range from high-functioning individuals trying to improve their efficiency and state of mind, to individuals who have been unable to complete daily care tasks, helping people get back into the office, or supporting an employee with struggles.
