ADHD DIAGNOSED, SON DIAGNOSED ADHD & ASD

Amanda-Jayne is a fully qualified, accredited psychotherapist and counsellor, with a Masters Degree in Psychoanalysis & Contemporary Society.   She also has a Diploma in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling.

Amanda-Jayne has extensive experience in supporting clients of all ages with diagnosed or suspected ADHD and ASD. Amanda has an ADHD diagnosis herself, with some traits of ASD, and offers both individual and couples therapy.

Amanda-Jayne grew up with neurodiversity, as many of her close relatives have diagnosed or suspected ADHD or ASD, and her son has a diagnosis of both conditions. She is passionate about guiding people towards self-acceptance and a more content existence, through helping her clients understand themselves and the world around them.

Amanda-Jayne has experience of working with children from the age of 4 years upwards. She has previously worked as a primary school counsellor, and spent 3 years working as a youth counsellor with teens and young adults aged 13 to 25.

For her younger clients, Amanda-Jayne offers a combination of talking therapy and play therapy, using a sand-tray, a dolls house, puppets and various art materials to help children explore and work through their feelings.

As well as offering therapy, Amanda-Jayne has also assisted parents looking to have their child assessed for ADHD or ASD, writing up reports of her observations of their child during therapy sessions, to support the assessment and diagnostic process.

She can also offer advice to parents concerned about their child’s behavior, to support them when their child is awaiting assessment.

Amanda-Jayne has helped many adult clients struggling to understand why they feel the way they do, or why they seem to end up repeating patterns of behaviour that leads to emotional pain; to recognize that their difficulties might be due to undiagnosed ADHD or ASD. This realisation in itself can bring up many mixed emotions for clients, which Amanda-Jayne is able to gently support clients with. She has helped many clients make the decision to go for an ADHD or ASD assessment, and supported them afterwards in making sense of the array of feelings that can often follow an official diagnosis.

Amanda-Jayne’s therapeutic approach is integrative, which means she calls upon various counselling  concepts to help support each unique client. She combines psychoanalytic ways of working, to help you explore and work through childhood trauma or relationship difficulties, along with Gestalt and Mindfulness techniques to help individuals be in touch with the body as well as the mind.
During sessions Amanda-Jayne explores with you ways in which the human vicious cycle of negative thinking, low mood and behaviour might have played out in your life, and how to untangle and make sense of your life. Amanda-Jayne also helps clients to become more aware of the needs of their ‘inner-child’, and how they can tend to these in a healthy, non-destructive way.

Amanda-Jayne is passionate about helping neurodiversive clients to celebrate who they are and enjoy the beautiful quirks and colours that make them who they are.
